Research Team


Principal Investigator

Rebecca Brossoit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University and the Principal Investigator of the SNEWS Lab. Dr. Brossoit conducts applied research on employee sleep, workplace safety, the work-life interface, workplace interventions, and the built and natural environment.
 
Dr. Brossoit earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Science and PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University. She received specialized training in Occupational Health Psychology through the Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center funded by CDC/NIOSH. After graduate school, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Oregon Institute for Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University and received training in the design, implementation, and evaluation of workplace randomized controlled trial interventions. Before joining Rice, Dr. Brossoit worked at Louisiana State University for three years. 
In addition to research, Dr. Brossoit has taught undergraduate courses in Introduction to Psychology and Organizational Psychology, as well as graduate seminars in Occupational Health Psychology and Organizational Interventions.
During her nonwork time, Dr. Brossoit enjoys listening to live music, spending time outside, and practicing yoga. 

Graduate Students

Destiny Castro is a second-year doctoral student in the Rice I/O Psychology program. She is from Denver, Colorado and earned her bachelor's degree in I/O psychology with a minor in statistics from Colorado State University in 2023. Her research interests include employee safety and well-being with the goal of improving the workplace for underrepresented workers and those in high-risk occupations. In her free time, Destiny enjoys taking her dog on walks, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
Hannah Perkins Stark is a fifth-year doctoral student in the LSU I/O Psychology program. A Louisiana native, she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from LSU in 2020 and her master's degree in I/O psychology in 2022. Her research interests include the application of advanced research methodologies to examine employee well-being and the work/non-work interface. After earning her Ph.D., she hopes to obtain a position as an Assistant Professor. Outside of school, she enjoys doing yoga, listening to the Crime Junkie podcast, and renovating her “fixer-upper”.

Research Assistants

Lacole Yang is an undergraduate student studying Psychology and Neuroscience at Rice University. Her research interests lie in clinical psychology, neurodevelopmental disorders, and sleep. Besides academics, she enjoys writing poetry and developing video games. 
 Meara McCarthy is a sophomore at Rice University pursuing a major in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Psychology and a minor in Theater. Originally from Oakland, California, she has conducted research on perception and participated in student government. Outside of academics, Meara is passionate about animals and enjoys hiking, yoga, musical theater, horseback riding, and speaking French. 
 Jessie Xie is a freshman at Rice planning on double majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. She’s originally from Dalian, China but spent her last four years in New York. She’s interested in health psychology and the clinical applications of psychology and neuroscience. In her free time, Jessie enjoys dancing, listening to music and spending time in nature.
